Sussex events to mark World Aids Day
Sussex Community NHS Trust’s Community HIV Specialist Service will be contributing to local events to mark World Aids Day on Sunday 1 December.
On Sunday 1 December, the service will be part of the Brighton & Hove Memorial candlelit vigil at the New Steine Gardens in Kemp Town (6-7pm).
On Monday, 2 December, there will be a special event at Crawley Hospital which includes presentations from our HIV nurse specialists who will be discussing the issues surrounding HIV stigma and discrimination. Call Jennie Thomas to book a place – 01293 600300 ext 4054.
Everyone is welcome to attend these events to find out more about HIV/Aids and about the Trust’s Community HIV Specialist Service. The service offers specialist HIV community nursing across Brighton & Hove and West Sussex, offering support, home visits and health checks for adults living with HIV.
Speaking about the importance of this year’s World Aids Day, Anna Bamford, clinical services manager HIV, Sussex Community NHS Trust, said: “World Aids Day is important as it reminds the public and government that HIV has not gone away – there is still a vital need to raise money, increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education. Stigma and discrimination remain a reality for many people living with HIV and this is part of our ongoing work with people we support locally. As usual, our staff will be available at some local events to answer questions and provide further information.”
