David Trent – This is All I Have

Although he kept forgetting he wasn’t in Edinburgh and prefigured some routines with enthusiasm-dampening prior critiques, This is All I Have is not quite the ‘difficult second album’ that Trent warned us of. It starts strong, with a forensic dismantling of a ludicrous Andrex ad campaign that segues into his takedown of a provocatively titled energy drink. Trent’s aggressive style might alienate but his insecure asides humanised him. It is true that the closing routine was not the strongest part of the show but it planted an image in my head that I won’t be able to shift for a while.
