Bent Double
Zoe Lyons’ gay-friendly comedy night Bent Double always delivers the laughs, a few thigh-slaps and more snorts than are socially acceptable. December’s edition was no exception. Lyons gave a good ribbing to all manner of topical news items but Nigella’s new stardust recipe will clearly be the gift that keeps giving for some time to come.
Tom Allen opened the show in spectacularly sharp and refined style. His set was so rapturously received that there were audible groans when he had to leave the stage. Maureen Younger kept up the laughs but her relentless bawdiness grew tiresome after awhile. Headliner Paul Sinha’s comedy stew of personal and political was masterful in its execution but the night really was Tom Allen’s from the start.
