CineCity – My Sweet Pepper Land

This movie takes place after the fall of Saddam Hussein. Govend (Golshifteh Farahani) wants to be a teacher but faces discrimination at every turn. Her brothers are in control and disagreeing about her ideal job. The main character, Baran (Korkmaz Arslan) – a Kurdish independence war hero – needs to run away from home. They both end up in a godforsaken village on the border of Iran and Turkey, an illegal trafficking Mecca.

Despite the fact that the subject matter is sensitive, Hiner Saleem (director and scriptwriter) makes a spaghetti-western/romantic-comedy where there is no room for tears.
