The Brand New Heavies

Thought Acid Jazz had had its day and was all about Jamiroquai’s ‘cat in the hat’?  Think again.  The Brand New Heavies raised the roof at a heaving Concorde 2 with some feel-good, Friday-night funk.

With a revolving door succession of band members, the Heavies could easily have dissolved, but in Darwinian, survival-of-the-fittest style, they’ve clung on, against the odds.

Having concocted their name from a description of James Brown as ‘the Minister of New Super Heavy Funk’, they may lack the gravitas of their Godfather of Soul namesake but as funk soul fusiliers they can still pack a punch.
