Yo La Tengo

The De La Warr was a lovely, welcoming venue to see the critically revered American indie band in, although it was a shame that the large auditorium was only half full. Generously, the band performed two sets, starting off with a slower, mostly acoustic first half, and ‘Black Flowers’ was one quietly beautiful highlight. The second set was arguably the proper YLT experience however, with the rich, jangly distortion sounding sensational, all the more surprising since it emanated from just three talented musicians. Although the hypnotic, extended jams weren’t to everyone’s taste, this reviewer relished them.
