Ásgeir

Currently the hottest property in Iceland, the chart-topping folkie’s audience were already well warmed up by the cold-suffering Norse folk noir of openers Farao. Ásgeir’s five-piece band, including a sibling and his producer, provided an excellent backing for this young musician with talent far beyond his years. From dark electronica to country ballads, his husky, quivering vocals; alternating between Icelandic and English, were a constant joy. His début single ‘King & Cross’ was a wonky disco diversion and the final song ‘Torrent’, with its guttural synths, pounding drums and that wonderful soaring voice, provided the rousing finale. Global domination awaits.
