Hove firefighters tackle two fires in two hours

Firefighters from Hove tackled two fires in two hours on Tuesday (17 December).

The first fire damaged a flat in Wilbury Road, Hove. The second involved a tar boiler at the back of a lorry in Church Road, Hove.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “On 17 December at 10.28am crews from Preston Circus and Hove were sent to a smell of burning at a property in Wilbury Road, Hove.

“On arrival, crews confirmed a small fire in a ground floor flat and used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

“A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to disperse smoke from the property.

“The cause of the fire was accidental.

“On 17 December at 12.28pm crews from Hove responded to an incident at Church Road, Hove, where a tar boiler had caught alight on the rear of a lorry.

“Crews used compressed air foam, one hose reel jet and two breathing apparatus.”
