Hove man sentenced after bursting into neighbour’s flat and attacking him

A man from Hove has been given a restraining order after bursting into a neighbour’s flat and attacking him.

David Emerton, 54, had a long-running dispute with Jesus Garcia, of Hove Villas, Hove.

It came to a head when Emerton kicked in 55-year-old Mr Garcia’s flat door late on the night of Sunday 26 May and attacked him.

Neither man was injured in the struggle that followed.

Emerton was convicted of common assault at Brighton Magistrates’ Court and given a two-year restraining order.

He was told not to contact Mr Garcia either directly or indirectly nor to go to Hova Villas.

Emerton, who gave his address as St Patrick’s Church in Cambridge Road, Hove, was also given a community order and an alcohol treatment order, both for 12 months.

The court, sitting on Monday 9 December, said that he should pay a fine, costs and a surcharge totalling £200.
