Brighton man’s murder trial due to start in Hove today

A 31-year-old Brighton man is due to go on trial today (Monday 13 January) after a father of two was shot dead in a Hove street.

Edmund Nela, who has no fixed address and is currently being held in prison in remand, denies the charges against him.

He is accused of murdering a fellow Albanian in May last year, two attempted murders and having a firearm.

Nela will be tried at Hove Crown Court on a charge of murdering a fellow Albanian, Xhem Krasniqi, a 31-year-old scaffolder, who lived in Strood, Kent.

Mr Krasniqi was shot in the stomach while walking with his brother and nephew in Church Road, Hove, near the junction with Selborne Road on Saturday 18 May.

The attempted murder charges relate to shots fired in the direction of Mr Krasniqi’s brother and nephew.
