Brighton and Hove council chief to discuss why so few women reach the top
Three leading women in Brighton and Hove are to discuss why so few women make it to the top.
They will share their thoughts about the issue at an event organised by the RSA (the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce).
They will talk about why it’s so hard to make it to the top and discuss their experience of holding leading jobs.
Their contribution comes when fewer than 17 per cent of board members of large publicly listed companies are women, according to the RSA.
The organisation said that there had been no significant change in this trend for several years although the figure for Britain had risen recently to 19 per cent.
In the non-profit sector the statistics are equally low, the RSA said, with just 20 per cent of top positions held by women.
The speakers are
- Caroline Lucas, the Green MP for Brighton Pavilion
- Penny Thompson, the chief executive of Brighton and Hove City Council
- Anne Boddington, the dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Brighton University
The event, called How Women Lead, is due to take place at the Sallis Benney Theatre – part of Brighton University – in Grand Parade, Brighton.
The doors open at 6.30pm and the event is scheduled to run from 7pm to 8.30pm on Tuesday 18 February.
RSA chief executive Matthew Taylor is to chair the discussion which is open to the public with tickets costing £6 or £3 for students.
