Fire damages Hove fish market’s offices
Fire damaged a building in the fish market yard at the Hove end of Shoreham Harbour last night (Thursday 16 January).
The two-storey office building belonging to Brighton and Newhaven Fish Sales, in Basin Road South, in Aldrington Basin and next to Hove Lagoon, was reported to be on fire just before 7.30pm.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service sent six fire engines from Hove, Preston Circus, Roedean and Lewes.
The fire service said: “The fire spread quite rapidly. It was in a two-storey building with a loft space.”
A spokesman said that at one point there were eight crews with breathing apparatus tackling the blaze. They used a hosereel jet, foam and a water hydrant.
The stop message – to say that no more help was needed at the scene – was sent at 9.30pm.
An investigation is under way into the cause of the fire and a reinspection of the premises is due to be held at 8am today (Friday 17 January).
