Cock Robin And His Very Merry Men
Pantomime (Brighton’s adult Alternative variety), is alive and well, if in need of a little TLC. Producer Brian Ralfe’s merry crew contended with a rogue sound system and an enthusiastic smoke machine to take us back to our youths (12th century!) and a tale bursting with double-entendre. Catastrophe, disaster and mayhem were all there on the first night and the cast rose gracefully above it with real professionalism and smiles. There are some good voices, well drilled by Music Director Laurence Knight, fabulous sequinned gowns and plenty of back-chat. It is a great evening and it can only get better!
Coda: The lads are collecting for The Alzheimer’s Society and The Sussex Beacon so it’s all in a very good cause.

Andrew Connal
As always, Andrew Connal makes fifty words do the word of a page: perfect, truthful resume of a whacky evening with the odd glitch from hilarious gags, guys and gals. Smoke may have got in our eyes and some of the sound never reached our ears, but all credit to your trusty – and brave – reviewer for putting the case properly. And, of course, bouquets for Ralfe and His Very Merrie Men. Louise Schweitzer.
