Wyrd Sisters
Fun and fantasy, wit and witches. All were to be found in the Brighton Little Theatre’s production of Terry Pratchett’s ‘Wryd Sisters’, where, just a step away from the centre of Brighton we entered the kingdom of Lancre in Discworld. With a humorous look at Shakespeare’s three witches, and other nods to the Bard such as a play within a play and even the ghost of a king, Wyrd Sisters is funny and clever, and this was a performance which would surely make Pratchett proud. Great acting and brilliant costumes made the book come alive for a tremendously fun evening.

I couldn’t agree more with this review, Pratchett would certainly be proud. I saw this show last night, my first visit to Brighton Little Theatre, purely because I am a big Terry Pratchett fan. I took my seat with some trepidation as I have seen disappointing adaptations in the past. However, this was a brilliant show and I felt assured from the opening scene. It tripped along at an impressive pace, at times leaving the audience gasping for breath between chuckles and belly laughs, with short scenes running effortlessly into one another. The costumes and effects were superb and the acting was first class. The 3 witches were very well acted and Magrat was particularly convincing, the young actress really captured the character well. The evil Duke and Duchess were wonderfully weird and zany, with the Duke’s descent into insanity expertly portrayed with precise comic timing. The Fool was likeable and the actor managed to strike a balance between pathos, humour and absurdity. The supporting cast were great, with soldiers, guards, witches and ham actors sometimes stealing scenes from the main characters! It’s a shame so much of the book was cut out but overall this was an extremely funny and enjoyable evening of entertainment, I shall certainly be returning to the Brighton Little Theatre.
