Two arrested over Brighton burglaries

Two men have been arrested, charged and remanded in custody after a basement flat in Brighton was burgled twice in a matter of days.

Sussex Police said that the flat in Russell Square, Brighton, was first broken into on Friday 24 January or Saturday 25 January.

It was then burgled again on Saturday 25 January or Sunday 26 January.

During the burglaries the suspects are accused of stealing an Apple Mac laptop computer, a Cartier watch, designer bags, clothing and jewellery.

They are also alleged to stolen the keys to a Saab convertible car and t have taken the car before abandoning it.

David Brian Richard Lown and William James Gunn, both 22, unemployed and of no fixed address, appeared before Brighton magistrates on Saturday (1 February).

Neither entered a plea to the burglary charges and the case was sent to the crown court for a preliminary hearing on Monday (24 February).

Both men were remanded in custody until that date.

A 21-year-old Brighton woman arrested on suspicion of being involved in the first burglary was later released on bail until Thursday 13 February while inquiries continue.
