Two men hunted by police after Brighton house destroyed by fire

Detectives have published descriptions of two men they are seeking after a fire destroyed a house on the border of Rottingdean and Saltdean.

And they have issued an efit of one of the men who was seen in the front garden of the property on the corner of the A259 Marine Drive and Cranleigh Avenue.

Sussex Police said: “Detectives would like to speak to this man over a fire that wrecked a home in Rottingdean.

“The emergency services were called to the derelict house in Marine Drive at 3.30pm on (Thursday) 7 November after the building was seen on fire.

“Surrounding roads had to be closed while East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service brought the blaze under control.

“The building was so badly damaged that it is now being demolished.

“Detectives are keen to speak to two men who were seen walking past the entrance to the house and into the front garden at about 2pm on the day of the fire.

“The first man, who is shown in the efit, was tanned, in his late twenties to early thirties, 6ft and toned as if he used a gym.

“His hair was dark brown and short around the sides but longer on top with the top being slightly bushy. He had brown eyes and a cropped beard.

“He was wearing a white shirt with a collar and a brown jacket.

“The second man was white, 45 to 50, 5ft 9in and of larger build. He had grey hair which was thinning in the middle and was wearing a yellow fluorescent jacket.”

Detective Constable Katy Hartley said: “These two men could have vital information about what happened inside the house.

“We need to speak to them to find out why they were there and what they saw. If you know who they are or have seen them elsewhere, please contact us.”
