Love Your Bike!
I Want to ride my bicycle
Love Your Bike Week takes place at the Circus Street Bike Hub with events & cycle servicing to get you back on two wheels
People in Brighton are being urged to get on their bikes for Brighton’s first Love Your Bike Week, created by charity Groundwork South in partnership with Cathedral Group.
Love Your Bike Week is being run from the new Circus Street Bike Hub at the old market building in Circus Street, Brighton, offering free services to help people fix, maintain and get their bikes back on the road.
“In light of the ever improving cycling conditions around Brighton & Hove, we aim to support more people to get on a bike and enjoy the benefits of this most affordable, efficient and healthy way to get around,” said Duncan Blinkhorn, Community Projects Co-ordinator at Groundwork South.
During ‘Love Your Bike Week’, Groundwork volunteers will be on hand from Tuesday 18 through Friday 21 February from 11am–3pm for local people to drop in with their bikes and get free help to fix them, or learn to maintain them. Anyone who has an old, unused bike can also drop it off there and it will be recycled.
There are also several fun group rides on offer, inviting people to meet up at Circus Street to cycle together along the seafront cycle paths to Shoreham and Saltdean. To join in the fun and find out details, visit www.circusstreetbrighton.com
Bike-related events take place all week, culminating in The Spin, a free event on 22nd February, 12pm– 4pm, featuring stunt riders, award-winning performance artists, bike workshops, Dr Bike, a bike assault course and more.
Martyn Evans, Creative Director of Cathedral Group, says: “The Circus Street Bike Hub is a precursor to our ground breaking cycle friendly development proposals on the site, where we are proposing a new cultural quarter with homes, student accommodation and two landmark buildings, including The Dance Space, a new home for South East Dance, and a library and teaching building for the University of Brighton.”
