Teenager arrested over Brighton seafront rape

A teenager has been arrested by police investigating the rape of an 18-year-old woman in a doorway in Brighton.

The victim has told detectives that she was on a night out with friends when she was attacked between 3.30am and 4.30am on Tuesday 28 January near the seafront.

Yesterday (Sunday 9 February) officers arrested a 19-year-old man from London on suspicion of rape.

He was questioned before being released on bail until Monday 24 March while officers carry out further inquiries.

Detective Inspector Julie Wakeford said: “We are still looking at CCTV footage to try to trace the victim’s movements before she called us.

“We would still like to speak to anyone who was in the area around the seafront in the early hours of 28 January and saw anything suspicious.”
