In brief: Tim Ridgway heads up Latest News

An award-winning journalist has joined The Latest ranks. Bill Smith, MD of the Latest says “We are delighted that Tim Ridgway has taken up the post of Head of News at Latest TV ahead of the new city station on freeview Channel 8 launching soon.”
Tim, 27, worked at the Argus for nearly 5 years and was formerly the local government reporter in Brighton where he went toe to toe with the city’s decision makers.

He also writes a fortnightly column for the city’s daily newspaper. He plans to bring a fair and impartial approach to Latest, where he will be responsible for helping create the news coverage for the new channel.

Tim said: “It’s fantastic to join such a creative and enthusiastic team at the The Latest.

“There is a lot of work to be done but it is a great honour to be tasked with helping create a station which everyone in this special city can be proud of.”
Originally from Oldham, near Manchester, Tim joined The Argus in 2009. Within 18 months he took responsibility for covering the city’s vibrant political scene as well as events further afield in Westminster.

Highlights during that time include interviewing two Prime Ministers and attending a reception with David Cameron at Number 10 Downing Street.

He was also one of the first journalists to interview Caroline Lucas when she became the country’s first Green MP after her historic victory in Brighton Pavilion in 2010. Tim was awarded specialist reporter of the year (highly commended) at the 2012 EDF Energy London and South of England awards.

A year later he won the overall columnist of the year title at the same awards.
