East India Youth
The trick with East India Youth is how William Doyle pulls his ideas together. Where his brilliant debut album ‘Total Strife Forever’ requires a closer inspection to reveal the secrets within, the live show is instantly thrilling.
Despite a minimalist set up, just Doyle switching between his laptop and various guitars, the songs have a big impact on the sold-out crowd. One minute we are transported to a rave somewhere outside the M25 in 1989 (‘Hinterland’) and the next it is the thunderous sounds of a brain mid-breakdown (‘Total Strife Forever I’). Somehow, it flows, and it the commitment to diversity and experimentation in his music that, one suspects, will make the gig a favourite for sometime to come.
