Saltdean Lido restoration moves another step forward
The bid to restore Saltdean Lido has taken a step forward after the appointment of an award-winning firm of architects.
Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company (CIC) has announced Conran & Partners will be the lead consultant in the renovation of the site, which includes the country’s only grade II* listed lido.
Paul Zara, who heads up Conran & Partners’ Brighton office, said “Saltdean Lido is an iconic site of immense cultural value.”
Saltdean Lido CIC, which took over the lease for the art deco building in December, held a competitive tender inviting a number of companies to submit proposals.
Richard Mason, a director of Saltdean Lido CIC and local architect consultant, said: “The quality of the proposals we received was extremely high and many firms were understandably keen to get involved with the project.
“Conran’s expertise and passion for modernist architecture shone through and we are delighted to be able to choose a local Brighton-based practice.”
Sir Terence Conran, the famous English designer who oversees the firm, added: “We are delighted that we have now been formally appointed by the Saltdean Lido CIC to work with them on the important job of breathing new life into this beautiful lido.”
The CIC is currently looking to raise money to carry out an extensive restoration of the site with it fully reopening in 2016.
