Two men taken to hospital as Brighton crash causes rush-hour jam

Two men were taken to hospital in Brighton with serious injuries after a crash blocked a key road during the rush-hour yesterday afternoon (Monday 24 February).

Sussex Police issued an appeal for witnesses after two vans crashed, leaving the road blocked between Falmer and Woodingdean from 3.15pm.

Firefighters had to cut one man free from the wreckage, close to Woodingdean.

Two men from one of the vans were taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital, in Brighton, with serious but not life-threatening injuries. The man in the other vehicle was not hurt.

The B2123, also known as Falmer Road and The Drove, was closed at the Falmer end by the village and the turn-off for Brighton University and Brighton and Hove Albion’s Amex Stadium.

At the Woodingdean end, the road was closed from the corner of Bexhill Road.

PC Gavin Spencer said: “I’d like to speak to anyone who was on the B2123 at about 3.15pm and saw either of the two vans being driven, either where it is The Drove or where it is Falmer Road.

“If you saw anything at all please contact me.”
