Goblin + Sons of Noel and Adrian
Claudio Simonetti’s cult prog outfit made its Brighton debut nearly forty years on in style. After the extremely Goblin-esque Sons Of Noel and Adrian had opened classily, there was the real thing, complete with layer-cake keyboards and gory visuals. The diverse set featured instrumental pieces spanning the Italian band’s career, including early records Roller and Il Fantastico Viaggio Del “Bagarozzo” Mark, through to the memorable Sleepless movie soundtrack. It was the themes from two earlier films by that same director, Dario Argento, though, that provided the highlight. Suspiria and Profondo Rosso, two genuinely spine-tingling synth classics, were a suitably hypnotic climax to a spellbinding set.
