The Mikado

Feudal Japan meets Vivienne Westwood in a comic opera full of laughs, colour and energy. The setting is a modern-day fashion house which allows for great innovation in costume design. The 7-strong company of Opera Della Luna work hard and use cast-doubling to fill all the roles in the well-loved story. A highlight was the famous ‘little list’ song which provided opportunity for topical naming and shaming. Stronger vocals are needed as some of the much-loved songs are lost in The Hawth (which is not a large theatre). Also greater directorial control would get the best from the uneven cast.
