Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra, Barry Wordsworth (conductor), Andrea de Flammineis (bassoon)

Vivaldi’s Bassoon Concerto was a vibrant piece, with a sweet underpinning of harpsichord and some mean lead bassoon work from Andrea de Flammineis. His expert noodling drew a lengthy round of applause. Aaron Copland’s ‘Appalachian Spring’ was like a delicately uplifting daydream, with the sprightly violins toying around with mesmerising layered melodies. Mozart rounded off the afternoon, and his Symphony No. 29 made for a striking finale, played with gusto across the board. Wordsworth spoke during a break about the BPO’s exciting final show of the series on Sunday 30 March, and it would be great to see it sold out to help our orchestra in their time of need.
