The Grand Budapest Hotel
The marvellous things you expect from a Wes Anderson film are quirky framing, caper chases, humorous and sometimes dark turns, a detail to character – and a cracking bout of storytelling. The Grand Budapest Hotel does not break this form. With Ralph Fiennes leading an excellent cast, the story of how the reclusive F Murray Abraham came to be the owner of a now neglected but once majestic establishment unfolds at the perfect pace of a metronome and with the charming visual impact of a Victorian childhood pop-up book. Slapstick and touching, enthralling and silly – Wes Anderson delivers it all with bundles of love and great affection.
