William Fitzsimmons
An imposing figure with his shaved head, long beard and old-school tattoos, Fitzsimmons delighted with his tender songs and a voice to match. His deeply personal songs’ arrangements, played with sensitivity by a three-piece band, perfectly complemented his brand of Americana. Songs from the new album raised the tempo and volume slightly, even prompting a lone female dancer but this was mostly music for the mind not the feet. A duet segment with guitarist Jake Phillips was very Simon & Garfunkel and the show finished with the band harmonising around a radio mic. Not much razzle but dazzling nonetheless.
