Celebcity: The Great Escape

The Great Escape, Cate Blanchett back in Brighton, Trevor Sorbie’s birthday and Noah Taylor’s art

Simply irresistible
The Great Escape festival continues to be the hot ticket this May – despite the fact their three-day saver price has now expired (sorry people – you must act faster!). Last month saw the Brighton-based new-music festival confirm electronic darling Jon Hopkins and Grammy nominated MNEK as new additions to the already mega line-up, joining the likes of Kelis, Elle Eyre and Wild Beasts on stages around the city. We’re pretty excited about catching new-girl-on-the-block Charli XCX, who recently guested on Iggy Azalea’s new track ‘Fancy’ and starred in its fab Clueless-inspired video. If this passed you by, you may have heard Charlie’s cover of Robert Palmer classic ‘Simply Irresistible’ a couple of weeks back, when it was used as the accompaniment to celebrity network E!’s coverage of The Oscars. However, if she still isn’t ringing any bells, we’re pretty sure you’ll hear her somewhere soon. Right now we’re getting our sprinting legs and queue elbows at the ready – bring on 8thMay!

Jessica Albarn
It’s been a real pleasure working with the lovely Jessica Albarn recently on her latest exhibitions. The artist, who has a rather famous brother (who you may have heard of!), is bringing her beautiful nature-inspired creations to Bristol and London in the coming months. Starting off with her ‘Resurrection’ themed show in a crypt in Bristol – why not? – over the Easter weekend, Jessica then brings a new selection of pieces to Lawrence Alkin Gallery in Soho this June. Already tipped my Grazia as one of ‘10 hot things to do’ this summer, we’re sure the exhibitions will be a hit – with maybe more than a few famous faces at the door.

Blan-Chett, actually
Spotted lunching on Trafalgar Street, beautiful actress Imogen Stubbs. The RADA trained star of stage and screen, AKA Lady Nunn was looking radiant; if you haven’t seen her bravura performance as Ursula Brangwen in The Rainbow I recommend catching it (the loveliest bottom to be seen on screen!)

And the Academy Award® for the very best red carpet-worthy spotted ever goes to Best Actress Winner, former Brighton resident and radiant beauty Cate Blanchett, who was seen in the city last weekend. Oh Cate, we still remember that day you called the JBPR office for a chat and we learned the correct way to pronounce your surname. (Blan-CHETT; with the emphasis on the second syllable BTW).

Hair anniversary
We’d like to wish a very Happy Birthday to the amazing Trevor Sorbie MBE who celebrated a very important birthday last week. It’s a huge year for the hairdressing genius as he also celebrates 50 years in hairdressing and the tenth anniversary of the opening of his Nile Street salon in Brighton. Keep your eyes peeled for much more from Trevor Sorbie Brighton over the next few weeks or follow them on Twitter: @TrevorSorbieBTN

Game Of Thrones: Private & confidential
Last Thursday saw the private view of Noah Taylor’s art show at the Lawrence Alkin Gallery on New Compton St. It was great to see Brighton-based Noah (who stars in HBO’s Game Of Thrones and my very favourite Wes Anderson film was The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou) surrounded by his striking monochromatic artworks. A very talented fellow. Check out his show ‘People are Strange at: www.lawrencealkingallery.com
