Gary Delaney – Purist

Gary Delaney has been proclaimed the natural successor to Tim Vine as the King of one-liners. That would make Delaney the Knave, strictly following the metaphor, a title he suits well. Teetering around the risqué and at other times downright stamping through the flowerbeds of naughty, such is his tight craft at gag-writing and likeable nature with his apologies for constantly corpsing, he is forgiven for most. Delaney is an arch talent with language and can be guilty of putting a cleverness at wordplay before the meaning of his linguistic tools, with shock a by-product of his skill. Overall though, an enjoyable and raucous evening.
