They may hail from Barcelona but their sound was pure 1960s American soul and grits ‘n’ gravy Rhythm & Blues. Firecracker lead singer Koko-Jean Davis’s dynamic dance moves and stunning vocal skills whipped up the crowd with a non-stop set of gritty Stax-Volt style originals – any of which could have been a lost classic. The pace slowed briefly for the James Carr influenced heartbreaker ‘I’ve Bet And I’ve Lost Again’ where we bore witness to Koko-Jean’s full testifying range. New album title track ‘Sometimes Too Much Ain’t Enough’ was exhilarating and summed up the night perfectly. An incendiary performance.
