Budding musicians offered chance to Rock the Houses of Parliament

Budding musicians are being urged to drum up the courage to sign up to a competition – with the potential of playing in Parliament.

Hove MP Mike Weatherley is encouraging any constituents who want to take part in Rock the House to apply before the competition closes on Monday (March 31).

The Conservative MP launched the contest after being elected in 2010 with the intention of raising awareness of the importance of protecting intellectual property rights among legislators and the general public.

Since then it has grown into Parliament’s largest competition.

The competition sees musicians enter their original material to their MP, who ultimately nominates one entrant per competition category.

A panel of industry executives preside over choosing the finalists.

Winners can go on to have their pieces played in Parliament and win an array of prizes, including equipment, festival slots, recording sessions, and radio and TV airplay.
