Banks
When an artist seems to come from nowhere it can arouse suspicion… and more so when the live setlist is short and the album isn’t yet out. Banks may have the young’uns swooning and crooning along with her, but hers was an uneasy sexiness on stage that felt like it has yet to fully inhabit the expanse of the near-industrial sound that cocoons her sultry vocals.
A Jessie Ware for juniors, Jillian Banks does, however, show promise, but more prominent vocals and more Fiona Apple angst (Banks’ self-confessed inspiration) will garner her more grown-up appreciation as she herself grows.
