It’s Dark Outside

A charming piece of physical theatre. Dementia is not an easy theme to work with but these Australian storytellers have tenderly captured the journey of our protagonist into his personal mental decline with delicacy and insight. Using a beautifully balanced combination of shadow play, animation projections, live action and puppetry, its dark outside managed to be both whimsical and poignant. Playful use of lighting, ingenious visual animation and outstanding original composition by Rachel Dease perfectly underscored this melancholy magic.
