Journeys home to Brighton and Hove delayed by train death at Hassocks
A person died after being hit by a train at Hassocks this afternoon (Monday 7 April).
Commuters returning home to Brighton and Hove suffered severe delays well into the evening.
The person was struck by the 1.34pm First Capital Connect Thameslink train from Brighton to Bedford.
The British Transport Police said: “Just after 2pm today we received reports of a person having been struck by a train at Hassocks station.
“Officers attended, alongside colleagues from Sussex Police and local paramedics and discovered a man had been struck and killed by a train.
“The death is not currently being treated as suspicious and officers are currently working to formally identify the deceased.
“Following the formal identification we will assist in the preparation of a report for the coroner.”
Later in the evening another incident on the track, this time at Horley, added to the problems.
