Celebcity: Trevor Sorbie

Miranda Hart, Trevor Sorbie, Urban Art, and Katie Price’s royal invitation

Celeb salon celebration
This week we’re celebrating one of the very loveliest celebs we have ever met. A man who has been a supporter of our fair city for ten years: the one and only Trevor Sorbie MBE.

Back in April 2004, the man who has been named British Hairdresser of the Year an unrivalled four (count ‘em) times chose Brighton as the first city outside London in which to open a Trevor Sorbie salon.

A big year for Trevor; 2004 also saw him receiving an MBE for services to hairdressing from HM The Queen.

After watching Trevor on the telly on shows from This Morning to GMTV we were overjoyed to hear that he was coming to town.

A star-studded opening launched the brand and we are delighted to say that over the following ten years Trevor’s brilliant salon team have kept Brighton beautiful with their award-winning cutting and colouring skills.

Trevor, we salute you and wish you another delightful decade in The Lanes.

Spotted
Spotted! OMG how ‘what I call’ excited were we to spot the comedian most brilliantly described (by The Guardian) as ‘the nation’s favourite pratfaller-in-chief’ galloping (not really, sadly) around The Lanes last week?? We are of course talking about none other than the comedy leviathan that is Miranda Hart.

The queen of the cheeky sidelong-glance-to-camera was in town for the Brighton stint of her debut comedy tour entitled My, What I Call, Live Show.

While sad that we weren’t quick enough on the draw to get hold of tickets for the gig, we have to say how very pleased we are to see a female comedian dominating the arena circuit.

A RIGHT ROYAL gaffe
We haven’t heard much from Sussex glamour queen Katie Price lately, but last week she popped up on Twitter to add her tuppence worth to the current media phone hacking trial.

During the trial, the court heard that former royal editor Clive Goodman (who at the time worked for the now defunct News of the World), claimed that while a guest at the 2005 wedding of his stepbrother Tom Parker Bowles (which took place on the same day Katie tied the knot with Peter André) Prince Harry admitted to a fellow guest: “To be honest I’d rather be at Jordan’s.” On hearing this, the hospitable Ms Price popped up on Twitter to invite HRH to pop over for a visit, tweeting:

“There is no more weddings but ur welcome to pop over for a cuppa anytime or chill at one of my legendary bbqs xxxx (sic).”

Whoops! Bet that left His Royal Highness with a tiny bit of explaining to do.

Brighton Fringe Festival
Regular readers of the column will know we are HUGE street art fans. So we are really delighted to hear that this year’s Brighton Fringe Festival will include an Urban Art Fest presented by the city’s best art aficionados, artrepublic and Ink_d.

It’ll all happen at the amazing Old Municipal Market on Circus Street in Brighton on 31 May from 3pm. Expect exciting artists, live art, performance and more. Best of all, admission will be free. Check brightonfringe.org for more exciting May happenings.
