Buddy!

It is immediately apparent why so many theatrical producers create what have become known as Jukebox shows. Sadly most of them come nowhere near to the high standard set by this mazing production now enjoying its 25th year. From the off this a quality job, quality cast, quality setting, costumes and script, oh yes, there is a real story here, a tragedy. Add to this of course a catalogue of hits created in a short period at the end of the 1950s but as fresh today as they were then. What’s not to like? Well I was prepared to be disappointed but came out with a huge grin on my face and a spring in my step. Full marks to the whole cast, all singing, dancing and playing instruments too – but in particular Roger Rowley who brings to life Buddy Holly with real skill – emotionally and vocally.
