Celeb city: We love Fatboy Slim

Norman Cook, Tinie Tempah loves chocolate, Brighton Marathon & Tom French’s work of art

Regular readers of Celeb City will know what huge fans we are of Norman Cook. We’ve worked with HRH Fatboy Slim on some amazing projects from his awesome gigs on the beach; his floor-filling takeover of the Wild Fruit tent at Pride 2012 and of course, the hottest ticket of all: his record-breaking Big Beach Bootique monster gig at The Amex. We love him.

This week brings news that Norm’s record label (and former Brighton & Hove Albion shirt sponsor) Skint and Loaded Records has been sold to industry giant BMG. The Loaded label was started in 1990 at the beginning of the first dance music explosion in the UK and the Skint label followed in 1995.

Damian Harris aka Midfield General says: “We have many amazing memories from raucous club nights at the Concorde and the sight of a quarter of a million people stretched across Brighton seafront for the Big Beach Boutique. Even though our success took us around the world our home and inspiration was always Brighton. Sorry about the mess we made of the beach that time but thank you for, not only, letting us sponsor The Albion but for the clubs, DJs and punters that inspired us to make music. I would like to thank all the artists who have given us such brilliant records to release, the Skint family for making it such a joy and pleasure, and to everyone that bought our records, came to our club nights and generally made the whole experience such a happy one.”

Art alert with Tom French
HOT artist alert! We are in raptures with the work of artist Tom French, whose private view we went along to last week at the Lawrence Alkin in Soho. His brooding monochromatic work was the perfect match for the cover of the vinyl re-release of the soundtrack of cult film Donnie Darko; a project he was commissioned to undertake recently. If you can’t make it to see his show ‘Flux’ up in the smoke, you can see his work at Bond Street gallery of your dreams, Art Republic or follow his blog here Tom French

Brighton Marathon runners
Massive congratulations to every single person who took part in this year’s Brighton Marathon. The fifth year of the event saw world record running star Paula Radcliffe in attendance to witness a course record by 2014 winner William Chebor who completed the course in just over 2 hours, 9 minutes.

Tinie’s cake
Man, we love the cake. You can take that statement to the bank. It’s true. News reaches us that Brighton cake geniuses Choccywoccydoodah have attracted commissions from some rather famous cake fans. They include ’90s Aussie heartthrob and actor Jason Donovan, everyone’s favourite entrepreneur and wannabe spaceman Richard Branson and perhaps, most surprising of all, multi-million selling rap star Tinie Tempah. Tinie’s cake? A car with a tiny Tinie driving it – all modelled out of chocolate. The celebrities can be seen on the chocolate shop’s reality TV series Choccywoccydoodah: Starstruck, which hits screens later this year. I caught an episode of the show last year where the Brighton chocolatiers made a cake for the wonderful Whoopi Goldberg. Choccy – we salute you as ambassadors for the city around the globe!
