Armed man arrested by riot police off Edward Street, Brighton
Police with riot shields arrested an armed man who set fire to a van off a busy Brighton street.
About 12 emergency vehicles attended the incident at about 10am today in Chapel Street, off Edward Street.
When 999 crews arrived the van was still on fire.
With the area quickly taped off, officers with riot shields visited a property in the road to try and track down the man involved.
Officers said a man inside the property began holding a knife to his own throat.
A 50-year-old man was later arrested inside the property on suspicion of criminal damage.
