Otherplace Productions at The Warren
Down the rabbit hole
Excitement awaits you at The Warren, the Brighton Fringe complex run by Otherplace Productions
Looking for the best night out at Brighton Fringe? Then follow those in the know and head to West Street where, tucked away in a secluded location, you’ll discover The Warren, a fairy-lit oasis showing the finest music, comedy, cabaret and theatre this May.
Run by Otherplace Brighton, one of the Fringe’s biggest production companies, the complex is home to three venues – The Warren Main House, The Burrow and The Warren at St Paul’s – not to mention a lively bar and garden where you can mingle with performers, catch an impromptu outdoor session from one of Brighton’s hottest bands or just soak up the atmosphere of the Fringe with a cold beer.
The Warren was first launched in 2012 and has been growing steadily year on year. 2014 is its busiest Fringe yet, with 349 performances spread across The Warren and sister venue Upstairs at Three and Ten on Steine Street. From the best of contemporary theatre to kids’ shows, stand-up comedy and live music, you’re guaranteed to find something to inspire and entertain.
The venue is only here for the duration of May so don’t miss out – book your tickets and discover the place everyone’s talking about.
The best of Otherplace 2014
The Bloody Ballad
Set in 1950s America, this award-winning show blends theatre and rock ‘n’ roll for an unforgettable live experience. Follow Mary, a girl with a troubled past, as she narrates her brutal love story accompanied by her band The Missing Fingers. So far, it’s won two Musical Theatre Network awards at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe and scooped the Brighton Fringe/Otherplace Award for Emerging Talent too.
Sat 3 May at 7.15pm and Sun 4–Tues 6 May at 9pm. Tickets: £10/£8.50
S***-Faced Shakespeare
One of the sell-out hits of the 2013 Brighton Fringe, S***-faced return for 2014 with a brand new, equally tipsy take on The Bard. The premise is simple: a completely straight Shakespeare play performed by classically-trained actors. The twist is that every night one of the cast is totally hammered. Hilarious and exhilarating, we guarantee you’ll never have seen anything like it.
Fri 23 May at 9pm, Sat 24 May
at 7.15pm, Sun 25 May–Fri 30 May at 9pm
A Berlin Kabaret
You might be familiar with the music of Bertolt Brecht but you won’t have seen it performed like this before. A walk on the wild side that mixes Lady Gaga with 1920s avant-garde, Sphinx Theatre present songs of revolution, love and exile that are just as fresh and relevant in modern Britain as they were in Brecht’s Germany.
Tues 13 May–Weds 14 May at 9.30pm, Fri 16 May at 9pm
Red Brick Comedy Club
Otherplace knows comedy; they won Best Comedy Venue in the South after all. So there’s no filler at this Saturday night club – just the finest stand-ups on the circuit doing what they do best. Award-winning headliners include Romesh Ranganathan (Stand Up For The Week; Live at The Apollo, Radio 4), Mike Wozniak (if.comedy nominee 2008, Time Out New Act of the Year) David Trent (Channel 4; Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee) and Tom Deacon (Radio 1, Dave).
