The 5th Push For Prems

PUSH FOR PREMS RETURNS,TO HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR THE TREVOR MANN BABY UNIT

Organisers Catherine Demir, Nicola Scroggins, John Scroggins, Chantal Marcello, Kirsty Jane Chapman and Toni Robertson are proud to announce details of the fifth ‘Push For Prems’ sponsored walk – an annual event to raise valuable money for the Trevor Mann Baby Unit, Brighton’s Royal Sussex County Hospital on June 29th 2014.

Set up by parents of babies who were born prematurely and received treatment in the unit, the team are aiming to raise a staggering £20,000 (the team raised £11,322.66 in 2013) which will purchase a much needed piece of equipment for the unit – a neonatal cerebral function monitoring machine.

The four mile sponsored walk will begin at the Royal Sussex County Hospital at 10am and finish at Hove Lagoon; where those who take part will celebrate with a picnic and release balloons in honour of those little ones who didn’t make it home. To take part, just turn up on the day, message the team for a sponsorship form on their Facebook page ‘Push For Prems TMBU Fundraiser’ or donate directly on their Just Giving page.

Dr Phil Amess, Consultant, Clinical Lead Trevor Mann Baby Unit says “We are extremely grateful to Catherine Demir and the team behind Push For Prems for raising vital funds for the unit year after year. This year the team are hoping to raise enough funds for a neonatal cerebral function monitoring machine. The brain requires a continuous supply of oxygen and nutrients, and even a short period of reduced oxygen supply can cause severe and lifelong consequences for an affected baby. This important machine will improve the monitoring of the brain during the intensive care of pre-term and newborn babies and hopefully with quick treatment such as cooling therapy will help to prevent permanent brain damage in post asphyctic babies.”

Catherine Demir, Push For Prems organiser comments: “Like many other mothers of premature babies who were looked after by the Trevor Mann Baby Unit, we cannot thank the doctors and nurses enough. They deliver the most amazing up-to-date care for premature and sick babies and supportive care to parents in very stressful circumstances.

We organised this walk as a way of saying thank you and it’s gone from strength to strength. There are so many pro-active parents that make such an effort to fundraise and it’s also a lovely way to meet parents of premature babies and talk about their experience. Everyone is welcome and this year we want to raise monies for a very valuable piece of equipment, a neonatal cerebral function monitoring machine for the unit.”

‘Push For Prems’ sponsored walk in aid of the Trevor Mann Baby Unit, Brighton’s Royal Sussex County Hospital, take place on June 29th 2014.
