The South
So, when The Beautiful South are set adrift on a burning musical pyre due to “musical similarities”, two members reform and like a cloth cap -earing phoenix from the flames ‘The South’ were born. And to their credit they are not just schlepping up and down the country performing the hits. They have new, albeit similar, material which does give them a certain amount of integrity. Dave Hemmingway’s voice is a delicate flower and unfortunately on the night it was drowned out; maybe early tour nerves, maybe the mix was wrong. But the band are tight and soaked with ‘Northern Soul’. Credibility intact.
