Behind the scenes of Latest TV with Richard Shayler
Reel love
Well, another week has gone by and what a week it’s been! The new studio is coming along swimmingly and we all saw something no-one has ever seen before…
A traffic warden with a heart! He gave one of our builders a ticket for parking outside but in a never-before-seen moment of humility decided that in fact it was essential for him to be loading his equipment and revoked it! Only in Brighton!
Elsewhere Latest TV’s Andrew Kay went down to Hotel Du Vin for a mid-week feast to learn about foods that have PDO status.
The Protected Designation of Origin allows farmers and food producers to maintain excellence and heritage throughout their output.
As well as being a really interesting and informative event, they even fed the cameraman. Unfortunately they also allowed the cameraman some free drinks as well. Thank goodness he brought his steadicam…
Moving on, B music filmed another great episode of Noise Reel discussing some really important issues surrounding the future of festivals, specifically our very own Meadowlands. Those guys just keep getting better and better, check it out online now.
The latest episode of our LGBT show Q Tube has also just been released and it makes for a very thought-provoking watch.
What with the brilliant news of same-sex marriage being legalised around the country the show then looked to investigate other countries that are still unfortunately absolutely against such practices.
The show travelled to Uganda to find out their stance with a heartfelt interview from LGBT activist Frank Mugisha.
Frank should be an inspiration to us all. The amount he has had to endure and the passion and enthusiasm he displays throughout such adversity is both touching and inspiring.
The sports team travelled down to Hove Lagoon to go wake boarding! They went down to film former athlete Iwan Thomas trying it out.
They said it was a lot like watching someone surfing… But with a wire and a helmet and no waves and in a lagoon. The sports team truly know their stuff! When asked if they wanted to give it a go they told the facilitators that they were all quite tired… Needed to ‘wake’ up a bit first… (I think their wake boarding skills would probably have been as bad as their jokes…)
Apparently Iwan was great at both jokes and wake boarding though, so well done him!
The What The Waffle (student show) team went down to SmoQue Grill takeaway to find out if it really was one of the best takeaways in Sussex. They interviewed Sepand Sarvari, the manager, who was a master of all things takeaway.
The crew really felt that they took a lot away from the interview… They took a burger, two pizzas, some chips, onion rings, a couple of cans of Tango and then proceeded to put the takeaway’s number on speed dial into their phones. Go check them out in Islingword Road, Brighton.
But more importantly remember to check out all our stuff online at www.thelatest.tv. Look out for our new ‘science’ section… We really are in our element(s)!
