Latest Style: Rhatia Renée finds there’s an edge to fashion this season
Forget me not
I don’t know about you, but spring seems a bit sharper and edgier this year. It’s less “girl running through a flowery garden”, more “peeling petals off a flower”. Forget me… forget me not. It’s reflected in the colours I’m seeing of late: earthy tones, dirty greens and taupey pinks. Bright hues with bold patterns and structured cuts are being given a chance. And where the classic spring pastels do exist, texture is used to complicate things and bring in more depth. Softness and toughness seem to be the order of the day. This is the way I certainly shot these looks.
Uber femininity still abounds which are reflected in the patterns and materials used. We welcome spring this year with open arms – and much earlier than we did last year. Brighton got through this entire winter without a single snow flake. Spring seems set to last, and a slow transition into a proper length season means we can enjoy our spring wardrobe to the fullest.
Our model, Athena, from Devon, walked into the studio ready to shoot. She seemed dainty, young, and unassuming. However, one of the things I love about photographing fashion is how attitudes can change instantly when I start clicking the shutter.
All of a sudden this womanly allure came through. It startled me how fast the sexy turned on… she must drive the boys back in Devon absolutely mad. So you see, there is definitely something in the air this season that is being brought out through the fresh crop of wearables.
