Thousands take to Brighton’s streets for the Children’s Parade
Thousands of youngsters from 83 schools have taken to the streets of Brighton for the Children’s Parade today (Saturday 3 May).
The annual parade is the opening event of the Brighton Festival – and with sunshine and hardly a cloud in the sky the weather is much kinder than last year’s rain.
The theme this year is the arts, with different sections of the parade focusing on different genres including dance, theatre, film, visual arts and books.
About 5,000 children are expected to make their way through the centre of Brighton watched by a crowd of about 20,000.
This year the organiser Same Sky joined forces for the first time with Brighton and Hove Music and Arts.
This enabled a Children’s Parade musician in residence to work with a number of local schools as they prepared for today’s event.
Brighton and Hove Buses tweeted a reminder about the parade as more than 30 routes operate a revised timetable fo the duration. Details can be found here.
