The Cult Of Comedy

There are any number of comedy collection line-ups out there, putting a man or woman in front of a microphone on a conveyer belt and saying: ‘Go!’. The thing that makes The Cult Of Comedy stand out from the rest is that those you see there including host and show runner Sameena Zehra – are a little off the beaten track, and more enjoyable for it. Not NTV wannabe boys in t-shirts, this was a smorgasbord of different voices finding the funny in new places, from Israeli gunfire to parish councils.

Headlining was the delightful Janet Bettesworth, who brought with her a highly enjoyable piece of immersive comedy, drawing the audience as one to the edge of their seats with anticipation.

Some material was strong than others, but in the assured and comedically strong hands of Zehra Cult Of Comedy is a welcome addition to the list of Fringe comedy nights, with a feel and tone all of its own.
