Hove Park parents plan protest to greet Gove outside Brighton College conference

Parents and campaigners against Hove Park School becoming an academy plan to protest outside Brighton College tomorrow (Thursday 8 May) where Education Secretary Michael Gove is due to speak.

The campaigners – Hands Off Hove Park – sent an email to supporters which said: “A number of individuals and organised groups will be gathering outside Brighton College for the ‘education conference’ on Thursday 8 May at approximately 9am.

“If any members of the ‘Hands Off’ group can get down there, a few of us are planning to attend with leaflets/banner etc.

“We realise many people are working but if you can make it, the more the merrier.

“There should be a good presence from others in the city too.”

A Facebook event page called Picket Gove has been set up by Left Unity Brighton and Hove. It said: “Michael Gove is coming to Brighton to give the keynote speech at an ‘education’ conference to be held by Brighton College.

“Among other right-wingers appearing will be Jonathan Aitken, disgraced former Tory politician, now rehabilitated after apparently finding religion in jail, and Max Mosley – son of famous Nazi Oswald, dodgy ex-racing driver and proponent of internet censorship.”
