Mozart Exsultate, Jubilate – Lucy Crowe (soprano), Harry Bicket (conductor)

The English Concert under Harry Bicket was brilliant in Mozart’s Divertimento K.136 and the bassoon concerto featuring the ebullient and stylish Ursula Leveaux. They were also the perfect setting for Lucy Crowe’s vocal fireworks, lyricism and passion. ‘Al destin’ from ‘Mitradate’, an exuberant masterpiece from 14-year-old Mozart fairly burnt the air, as did the aria from ‘Lucio Silla’, but in between was the ravishingly calm ‘Ruhe sanft’ that had folk in tears of delight. Such control, range of emotion and pure beauty of tone is rare, yet she was quite as perfect in the ‘Et incarnates est’ and ‘Exultate, jubilate’!
