Latest People: Art Fare on Brighton & Hove Buses, House 2014, Brighton Music Conference & Spiegeltent launch
Art Fare, a first on Brighton & Hove Buses!
Art Fare, a public art exhibition on Brighton & Hove buses produced by the Fine Art Critical Practice Students from the University of Brighton is on until 16 May. Will you catch the Angel going to (New)haven? Or the performance art whereby everyone on the bus will wave to passers by, or the Light Show Newspaper, or the philosophical thoughts posted on Brighton & Hove buses? The best thing is to travel widely on a range of buses to catch the full gamut of this excellent art, including Brighton & Hove bus cushions and a Make Your Own Damien Hirst kit. Matthew Cornford, Professor of Fine Art at the University of Brighton, spoke highly about the students’ work at the launch of Art Fare held at the Dick Knight bar of the Amex stadium. Tamsin Davies and Nick Hill from Brighton & Hove buses are delighted with the exhibition and more information will be available at artfare.co.uk or #artfare on twitter. Catch this innovative public art, the first of its kind in the UK (and possibly globally), while you can! Latest loves the Brighton & Hove bus cushions!
House 2014
The launch of House Festival took place at Regency Town House on May 2. With this year’s theme “Migration, Refuge and Territory”, selected artists Leah Gordon, Phillip Hall-Patch, Ester Svensson, Rosanna Martin and Tobias Revell make a point of connection with Yinka Shonibare’s new work, in a compelling series of four new curated commissions across the city. House is a curated contemporary visual arts festival, which takes place in Brighton every May as part of the Brighton Festival season. In its 6th year, House 2014 runs from 3 – 25 May and is a wonderful opportunity for the residents of Brighton & Hove to showcase the creative talent that the city has to offer. Spiegeltent launch!
Always one of the most fun places to hang out throughout the Festival season, The Spiegeltent has returned to Brighton for the month of May. The travelling mirrored tent has been joined by the always-free-entry Spiegelpub, which is open until 2am at the weekend, and the Heineken Green Room, a modern ‘cube’ that offsets the vintage tent perfectly. Surrounding that are the Pleasure Gardens for relaxing and enjoying great street food. As ever, the mix of shows is top notch, from The Tiger Lillies to the company’s own Lost In Transit.
