Farewell the Trumpet

Stars of Brighton, Sussex and European music treated the packed church to a glorious concert of Purcell masterpieces to mark the retirement from playing of Brighton’s own Gavin Henderson – professor, promoter and performer who from 1983-1994 was the inspirational Artistic Director of the Brighton Festival. John Hancorn directed the BREMF Singers, Dartington/St Bartholomew’s Orchestra (with illustrious guests) and the Henderson Brass Consort in supporting soloists Dame Emma Kirkby (Patron of Brighton Early Music Festival), James Bowman, Deborah Roberts, Nicholas Clapton and Alex Roose. This local, family affair brimmed with enthusiasm and warm appreciation of a most distinguished international career – bravo, Gavin!
