Jeremy Deller – Desert Island Pics

Turner Prize winner Jeremy Deller was a laid-back, unpretentious subject for this event, choosing eight interesting photos he would take with him to a desert island. Unfortunately the awkward interview style of photography lecturer Stephen Bull failed to bring out the best or reveal much about this eloquent artist. By the time we reached the penultimate choice, an erotic photo which Bull was unnecessarily coy about showing, Deller was literally squirming in his chair and the audience was cringing. Too many unasked questions, a wasted opportunity to learn more about one of Britain’s leading conceptual artists and an uncomfortable evening all round.
